Travel with Comfortability in Motorhome Hire

There are a lot of amazing things you can do when traveling in a hired motorhome. For one, you can bring it with you. You get to go anywhere with it. Everything is hassle free! You can get a motorhome hire nowadays for a cheap price. You can go for a motorhome with toilet and shower and even opt to have a microwave and fridge, too.

This is also a good way to get to know your partner better. What could be better than breaking the ice when you are on your own trip, doing it your way? No tour guides to nudge us. No restrictions. This is a sure way to travel when you’re on a budget, and the surest way for family bonding too.

I like it this way, randomly picking out your own tour and unscheduled stops. This way, I could really get some good footage with the surrounding area and even with the wacky locals! Plus, I get to bring my own homemade sandwich. I could stock up on my own bread and spread.

I’ve got no worries and no frills about it, too. I have a bed to sleep on. Which is the number one thing to consider! And not to mention storage space and air conditioning. You can bring your closet and store them. Did I mention toilet and shower? Much cheaper than staying in a hotel or even a motel. And the place needs little maintenance. With the space and comfortability, I might buy my own in the future. [Read more...]

Effective Way to Avoid Travel Insomnia

Now you are finally ensconced in your hotel room and as night wears on and darkness descends, you become aware of all the invading noises and cracks of light that play havoc with your time to rest.  Too boot, you are likely dealing with jet lag and the effects of crossing multiple time zones.  We all know this throws of four circadian rhythm.

Here is how to make the best of a trip and get the best sleep possible.  It is generally wise to plan ahead.  In terms of dealing with the time zone change and the effects on your circadian rhythm, it is always best to take two to three nights ahead of flying and start going to bed in the time zone you are headed to.  In other words, you are attempting to reset your biological clock, so that when you arrive at your destination you are already sleeping and waking in a new zone.  Few actually do this, but if you are alight, sensitive sleeper, it’s always best to adapt ahead of time.  It will save you much grief on the other end.

If you find that challenging to do, start your pre-sleep routine just that much earlier.  Begin your meditation and relaxation pre-bed routine one half hour earlier the first night and then an hour ahead the next night.  Remember to adjust your morning rising time to accommodate the challenges of arrival, particularly if traveling eastward.  The reverse is true for traveling westward – stay up later – get up later.  It’s always easier traveling west than east.

If space allow, pack your own pillow. Recognizing the comfort of your own things while in a hotel room helps to encourage your on-going restfulness. Sleep tight while traveling.

ideas to consider before your vacation

Summertime is a very big time of year for vacations. The last thing on people’s minds when they are vacationing on a cruise ship, an island, a beach or wherever your travels take you, is what is going on at home. Well, you should at least take care of your home before you leave to prevent a bad situation to come home to. For anybody who has had their house robbed they know that it is not a pleasant thing. Trust me, I have been there.

So, in lieu of the situation I want to pass along some tips that everyone should follow to safeguard from some potential disasters. One of the times your home is most vulnerable is when it is left empty for an extended period of time. Darkened windows, unretrieved mail or newspapers and closed windows in hotter weather all advertise an empty house to a potential burglar. Here are a couple of ideas to consider.

  • Have a housesitter – a friend or family member who you trust to stay at your house while you are gone is a great way to fool burglars.
  • If you can’t get a housesitter then have a neighbor check on your apartment or home while you are gone. Have them turn on some lights or the tv and radio to give the illusion of life.
  • Keep a radio or tv on a timer if nothing else fails. TV noise would immediately give the illusion of somebody being home.
  • A BIG MUST – make sure whomever is watching your home knows how to work all the alarms in the house and knows the code to turn it on or off. They should also know who to call in case of a problem.
  • Unless there is going to be a housesitter, you must have your mail stopped. Even if it is for a couple of days. A stack of mail is a dead giveaway to a burglar. Also have a neighbor keep an eye out for packages that may be delivered too. Have them pick them up and hold them for you.
  • Make sure you have your garden and plants watered to make it seem like there is some kind of life. Especially if your garden is usually spectacular. [Read more...]

Tips on using your Outdoor Gear

When out walking, hiking, mountaineering, climbing or mountain biking etc. it is very important to wear clothing designed to protect you from the elements. Not only will correct clothing ensure that you are comfortable and enjoy your activity, it could, and in extreme conditions it will, save your life.

The layering system is an effective way of ensuring that you maintain a comfortable body temperature during and after exercise, no matter what the weather is like. The layering system employs three basic layers which are: Outer Layer – waterproofs to protect you from wind, rain and snow; the Mid Layer – to provide insulation and keep you warm; and the Base Layer – to provide insulation and wick sweat away from you skin.

Not only does each layer have its own function within the layering system, but air is also trapped between each layer. The air between the layers keeps you warmer than if you were to wear one thick layer. The layering system is very flexible. If you are hot you can remove a layer. If you are cold you can add a layer. For example you could use more than one mid layer to help keep you warm. For the best comfort all layers should be breathable or have wicking capabilities. If one of your layers is not breathable/wicking then the breathable/wicking properties of other layers will not be so effective.

Before going on a walk, expedition or other outdoor activity it is important to think about the type of clothes that you will need to take with you. Some things to consider are: How long will you be away for? The longer you will be away, the less likely you will be able to predict what the weather will be like. You need to be prepared for good and bad weather conditions.

When and where are you going walking? During the winter in Scotland you are not going to need a pair of shorts to walk in, but you will definitely need good quality waterproofs. When rambling on a hot summers day in Spain you are unlikely to require five fleece jackets.

How high will you be going? It may be hot and sunny in the valley, but as you start to climb the weather can soon get cold and unpredictable. Up in the mountains wind, rain and snow can suddenly appear from out of nowhere.

What will you do after your exercise/where will you be staying? You may be plenty warm enough while you are doing your outdoor activity, but as soon as you stop you can become very cold. This is especially true if after a hard day of hiking you have to wait around for a train home, or if you are camping overnight. [Read more...]

how to safely enjoy the sun

We can’t deny the fact that sunbathing is an integral and much loved part of most people’s holiday but recent reports of over exposure to the sun causing skin cancer have made many people wary of spending too much time in the sun. However, paradoxically the over use of sun screens can actually have health problems in itself and under exposure to the sun can also be detrimental to our wellbeing.

Too much high factor sun block can delay sunburn, which is of course an important reminder that you have had too much sun, and in addition it can block the bodies manufacture of vitamin D which in itself helps to protect us from skin, breast and prostate cancer and is invaluable for boosting the immune system in general. Vitamin D also offers us protection against osteoporosis and sunlight can, believe it or not, play a part in lowering cholesterol levels and blood pressure.

As mentioned sunlight is important for the production of vitamin D, it also plays a role in the production of melatonin which controls our sleep patterns amongst other things, so a lack of sunlight can lead to insomnia. Melatonin also plays an important part in building a healthy immune system and can help protect against cancer. Serotonin, the good mood hormone, is likewise produced in the body in the presence of sunlight. So in order to be able to enjoy the sun when on holiday follow these practical guidelines to safe sunbathing:

  • Avoid exposure during the midday hours and don’t stay in it for too long if it is very fierce.
  • Choose a sun cream with added vitamins and minerals, apply it 30-60 minutes before exposure and re-apply often. Added nutrients which have been found to be of particular benefit are vitamins C and E along with the minerals selenium and zinc.
  • Take supplements such as vitamins C,D,E and Beta-carotene and the minerals selenium, calcium and zinc. These will give your sunscreen a boost and help to prevent skin damage.
  • Eat a healthy diet with plenty of fresh fruit and veg. They are rich in vitamins, minerals, flavenoids and carotenoids, all of which are essential for a healthy skin and are good healing agents too.
  • Drink green tea, this has recently been found to be of benefit to prevent burning if drunk whilst sunbathing, it can also be soothing if applied topically to sunburn.

If after all your efforts at safe sunbathing you still end up sun burn there are a few natural remedies that may help: [Read more...]

nice experience to spend an outdoor activity

For two consecutive Fridays now, hubby and I tag along the family of his aunt on going to church and doing shopping. Other than my brother-in-law, they are the closest family we have here in UAE. We can’t spend much of our time with brother-in-law because he likes to be left alone with his friends. Lucky for us they welcome us warmly and generously in their family.

Yesterday, his aunt asked us to go on a trip with them. Of course, I can’t say no because in two weeks of staying here I’ve never been able to go anywhere other than job interviews. I’m pretty sure it would be a nice experience to spend an outdoor activity with the rest of the family. Oh well, I’m not sure how to return all the good deeds and generosity they showed us.

I thought about giving the family a gift once I landed a job. I’m not so sure what it is so I searched the web. Good thing, I came across the thule bike racks at cracksandracks.com. Their car can use this kind of accessory since they love to spend outdoor activities with their kids. Having a rack will help them bring along bikes. Well, I guess it’s settled then. All I have to do now is find a job as soon as possible.
