The following guidelines should help you stay out of trouble.

Watch what you eat. In rural regions, avoid leafy raw vegetables, salads, cold cuts, and anything containing dairy products. Make sure meat, poultry and seafood are cooked thoroughly and served hot. Avoid raw fruit unless you’ve peeled it yourself. And don’t buy food from street vendors.
Don’t get bitten. In buggy regions keep your arms and legs covered. Use an insect repellent that contains no more than 30 percent deet. Avoid using perfumes since it may attract insects.
Find a competent doctor. Call a hospital that’s affiliated with a medical school. Or contact your embassy. In some regions, ask the hotel or the local police to refer to a reliable physician,
These days, with proper planning and precautions, most people can travel without undue health worries, to even the most exotic places of the world.
