Soap vs. Sanitizer

Which work better? While alcohol-based gels remove more germs, plain soap and water are fine for everyday washing. But neither works unless you do it right. The biggest mistakes: With soap, it’s speed washing – it takes 15 seconds of lathering to reduced bacterial count by 90 percent, 30 seconds to get 99.9 percent – and speed dying. Wet hands are more likely to spread germs than dry ones. You must dry for at least 20 seconds with towel. With sanitizers, studies show that most people don’t use enough. You need to cover all surfaces of your hands – the tops and between the fingers, as well as the palms.

Quick Cleanup Tips!

1.Take a snapshot of each of your rooms at its tip-top, shiny best. The photo will motivate you to keep it that way.
2.To avoid time-consuming back tracking, look at every room as if it were a clock with the doorway at 6. Dust the room in either a clockwise or counterclockwise direction until your back at 6 o’clock.
3.Fox extra shine and polish, use a multi-surface spray to clean countertops, stoves, sinks – even stainless steel and glass.
4.Once or twice a month, douse a microfiber cloth with lemon oil and wipe down shower walls – it repeals water soap scum.
5.Some people color-code a microfiber cloth for every surface like furniture, glass and mirrors, countertops, and sinks. Many types of microfiber cloths and cleaning mits are available at House and Home stores.

Angelina Made Pregnancy Fashionable?

We all know that Angelina Jolie is definitely not what you’d call publicity-shy – on the contrary, the mother-of-four, actress and humanitarian know full well the value of media exposure and of a carefully manipulated public image. Arm in arm with her equally famous partner turned world’s-most-famous-Daddy Brad Pitt, Angie is moving on with her extraordinary life, promoting her movies, traveling the world and getting ready for the arrival of her twins.
Angie has been in Cannes over the past days promoting her latest flick, an animated movie called “Kung Fu Panda”, and has been doing the usual promotional rounds – interviews, photo shoots, red carpet events – with the utmost grace, showing off at least three separate, beautiful maternity gowns in Angelina’s fabulous white maternity dress, embroidered with a scorpion one day.
Angelina’s pregnancy was one of the hottest topics in Cannes ever since the festival debuted two days ago, the fact that she is in fact expecting twins and the exact date when she is due to give birth – August 19th. What with the celebrity buzz surrounding her, her fashion choices and the fact that her whole family is currently in France alongside her, Angie is definitely the queen of the Cannes media hype – and the festival has only just begun.

Decoding Perfume Labels

Ever wondered what the words on perfume labels mean? According to French standards, perfumes are classified into four different types:

  • Eau de Cologne (EDC) popularized by Napoleon Bonaparte, is made with a three percent compound solution of oil and water. It is considered to be the lightest of scents and the least expensive.
  • Eau de Toilet (EDT) or ‘toilet or bath water’ as it was historically known, is made with three to eight percent compound solution of oil and water. Its concentration is higher than as Eau de Cologne, making it pricier.
  • Eau de Parfum (EDP) has a 10 to 15 percent compound solution of oil and water, which make it more potent than EDC and EDT. When applied on pulse points, it lingers for hours.
  • Parfum has the highest concentration of oils, with a 20 to 50% compound solution – closest to that of a pure botanical essence. Parfum last longer than the other mixture and is also considered to be the priciest perfume.

4 Popular Myths About Your Health

Myth: Brushing your teeth right after eating sweets will help you avoid decay.
Experts say: Absolutely not true.
Why: Dentists say that whenever we eat sugar, this causes the enamel of the teeth to soften slightly for a short interval. If we brush our teeth immediately after eating sweets, we’re actually causing damage to the protective coating of our teeth, thus making everything a million times worse. It’s therefore best if we wait for at least an hour before brushing with a fluoride toothpaste.

Myth: Brushing your teeth for a long interval will help them stay clean.
Experts say: Not True.
Why: Brushing is essential for keeping our teeth clean, but too aggressive brushing can cause damage to the enamel coat, actually making it wear off. Lengthy brushing also causes receding gums. Doctors say brush for a maximum of two minutes using circular motions.

Myth: Eating too much sugar will give you diabetes.
Experts say: Not true.
Why: Diabetes is triggered when the pancreas fails to secrete sufficient insulin to control the glucose levels in our blood, which means that too much sugar cannot in itself make us develop diabetes. But there’s a catch. The most common form of diabetes is Type 2 diabetes, which does not require regular insulin injections but is quite a serious condition. Type 2 diabetes is rapidly increasing in the developed world and has been linked to rising rates of obesity – which in its turn can be triggered by eating too many sweets and sugary foods. As a result, it’s good to stay off the chocolate – however, know that it won’t directly make you a diabetic.

Myth: Alcohol will render antibiotics useless.
Experts say: Not true.
Why: There are many drugs out there – antibiotics among them – that will leave you feeling dizzy when mixed with alcohol, or even make you feel drunk faster. Needless to say, alcohol consumption is not indicated at any time, least of all when you’re sick. However, there is no scientific proof to support the old argument that drinking will make your pills useless. The one exception mentioned by an expert quoted by the Daily Mail is an antibiotic named Metronidazole (prescribed for various infections) which causes vomiting when mixed with even the smallest amount of alcohol.
